The challenge to deliver modern energy needs
More Americans are moving to Texas than any other state. Around half a million people arrived in 2022, according to U.S. Census data. Additionally, the Southeast Texas Gulf Coast is one of the country’s fastest-growing industrial areas. Entergy Texas expects to see around a 13% increase across our residential, commercial and industrial customer base from 2024 to 2028.
The pace of this new growth is exceeding initial projections, and while we’ve been able to find affordable capacity to meet higher demand, those options are dwindling and can no longer take the place of new generation resources.
Since 2021, Entergy Texas launched commercial operations at the Montgomery County Power Station, a state-of-the-art 993-megawatt natural gas plant; contracted the 150-megawatt Umbriel Solar Facility in Polk County, Texas; acquired the 150-megawatt Hardin County Peaking Facility; and started construction on the highly advanced 1,215-megawatt Orange County Advanced Power Station in Bridge City, Texas – but that’s still not enough to support the extraordinary growth in the region.
To support the everyday energy needs of our growing communities, we’ve developed a strategic plan that will provide a diverse mix of generation, strengthen the Southeast Texas power grid and drive economic growth – all while striving to keep rates affordable for our customers.
